UPS Signature Required Packages – What To Do If You Are Not Home
Some orders ship with UPS Signature Required for security reasons. If UPS attempts delivery and no one is available to sign, the driver may leave a UPS Delivery Notice / InfoNotice, attempt delivery again, or route the package to a nearby UPS Access Point location for pickup.
Option 1: Request UPS Hold for Pickup Before Delivery
You can usually request that UPS hold your package at a UPS location before the first delivery attempt.
-
Go to UPS.com.
-
Click Track.
-
Enter your tracking number.
-
Select Change My Delivery.
-
Choose Hold at UPS Location.
-
Pick the available UPS location shown by UPS.
-
Follow the prompts to confirm the request.
This option may not be available for every shipment, every address, or every UPS location. UPS controls the available delivery-change options.
Option 2: Use UPS My Choice
For more delivery options, create or log in to a free UPS My Choice account at UPS.com. UPS My Choice may allow you to:
-
View incoming UPS packages.
-
Receive delivery alerts.
-
Change the delivery date.
-
Change the delivery location.
-
Request hold for pickup when available.
Option 3: After a Missed Delivery
If UPS already attempted delivery, check the UPS Delivery Notice / InfoNotice left by the driver.
-
Scan the notice or enter the tracking number at UPS.com.
-
Follow the instructions shown for your package.
-
UPS may attempt delivery again or make the package available at a nearby UPS Access Point.
-
If the package is sent to a pickup location, bring a valid photo ID and your tracking number.
Important Signature Notes
If a package requires a signature, UPS may not be allowed to leave it unattended. Signing the delivery notice does not always authorize release, especially if the shipment requires an adult signature or if UPS/the shipper restricts release.
Picking Up at a UPS Location
When picking up, bring:
-
Government-issued photo ID.
-
Tracking number.
-
UPS Delivery Notice / InfoNotice, if you received one.
The name and/or address on your ID may need to match the package information. If someone else is picking it up for you, UPS may require additional authorization.
If UPS Does Not Show a Hold/Pickup Option
If UPS does not offer the option online, it usually means the package is not eligible for that change, the shipper restricted delivery changes, there is no eligible nearby pickup location, or the package is already too far along in the delivery process.
In that case, continue watching the UPS tracking page for updates and follow the instructions from UPS.
